iPhone 4, Part 2

clock August 11, 2010 07:35 by author mmrblog

Here’s the second part of my blog on the new iPhone 4; specifically…shooting, editing and uploading hi def video, all on the new phone. In my previous post I gave a review of what I liked (really liked!) about Apple’s new iPhone. Today, a quick look at what you can do on this phone, from a video perspective.
First of all, you’ll need to purchase the $4.99 iMovie app from the iTunes store. Once done, you’ll need to get familiar with what the app can and cannot do. Here’s a quick link to iMovie for iPhone 4 FAQ’s:

The New iPhone 4

clock July 27, 2010 08:41 by author mmrblog

OK, my wife says I’m an early adapter. I try to be on the cutting edge of new technologies without crossing over into geekland, and yes, I now own a new iPhone 4…but I didn’t wait in line for two days to get it. I let FedEx deliver it to me (two days ahead of schedule) after being shipped from Shenzen, China. Now for the lowdown: this is one amazing piece of technology. It just feels good in your hand. I upgraded from my two-year old iPhone 3G and the new iPhone 4 is like a Audi R8 in comparison. Apps open much, much faster. You can switch between apps (multi-tasking) and return back to any open app exactly where you left off, meaning the app doesn’t have to relaunch each time you go to it.

The biggest app I’ve had on both of my iPhones is Navigon, a GPS travel planner.  My wife says I’m “directionally challenged,” but not any more. On my 3G this app would take minutes just to open. Now it loads, finds my location and plots my travel route before I back out of my garage and reach the end of the driveway. Web pages load at the speed of a click. I’m not waiting minutes for news websites to download. Now it’s literally a matter of seconds. For more info, I suggest visiting http://www.apple.com/iphone/  More...

Why You Need Mobile Web On Your Website

clock June 22, 2010 12:16 by author mmrblog
Part of any marketing strategy for a business today includes getting a website setup so customers can learn more about, and interact with your business.  With over 230 million people on the internet in the United States alone, people look to the internet when they want to find a business and learn more about it.  Surprisingly, over the next five years, this will no longer be enough.  The next internet revolution is already upon us...people accessing the internet from mobile devices.

People don't just carry cell phones with them anymore.  More and more people are buying smartphones like iPhone, Android, or BlackBerry that are able to access the internet and a wide variety of media.  By next year, over 85% of new handsets (including smartphones) will be able to access the mobile web.  Last year a half a billion people worldwide accessed the mobile Internet, with 285.6 million of those subscribers being in the USA.  With the explosive growth of access to the mobile web, it is expected that in five years the number of people accessing the mobile Internet will overtake the desktop PC as the most popular way to get on the Web.  Over the past 12 months, traffic to mobile websites has grown by 600%, and the average time spent on a site has more then doubled.

Why Right-Brainers Will Rule The World

clock June 16, 2010 12:58 by author mmrblog

I’ve got a great book to recommend by Dan Pink called, “A Whole New Mind.” It’s a great gift for clients (I’ve given five copies away already) and my whole family is reading it.

I was given a copy while on a video shoot, by a Madeira High School teacher who uses it in his class. The subtitle, “Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the World,” sets up the theme of the book.

High Definition video on a budget? Meet the Flip UltraHD

clock June 11, 2010 07:36 by author mmrblog

Thinking of buying an inexpensive high definition video camera? Here’s the good and bad of the Flip UltraHD that I bought for work and pleasure.

As a commercial director, I’ve used many film and video cameras over the years to tape corporate videos, commercials, sports programming, events, and my children’s soccer games. From first carrying a “portable” video VHS deck to tape my oldest son’s first years, to a high def camera that can fit in you pocket…well, we’ve sure come a long way.

While editing campaign commercials last fall, the producer handed me a FlipHD camera that had footage of his candidate on it that he wanted to incorporate in the commercials we were producing. It was the first time I had seen a camera this small that took 720p, high def video, with sound. Incredible! I borrowed the camera for a weekend trip and went crazy shooting anything and everything with it.  More...

Engaging Customers Through Social Media

clock August 12, 2009 20:44 by author murray

For many small businesses, now is a difficult time to be advertising with shrinking budgets and decreasing sales.  While studies show that advertising, now more then ever, is important to retaining customers and increasing sales (http://bit.ly/44bNNb), effective use of social media can help a company to engage customers and increase sales.  If it is not within a company's budget to continue advertising, then social media can be a great low-cost or free option.  Social media is being used by Fortune 500 companies and is growing at an absurd rate, with phenomenal potential to increase business and connect companies to customers and other businesses.  Here are a few of the most popular types of social media and how they can be used: More...

The Importance of Advertising in a Down Economy

clock August 10, 2009 11:21 by author murray

One of the first things that happen in a down economy is that companies begin to slash money out of their budgets wherever possible.  Unfortunately for many businesses, one of the first areas that they begin to cut money from is their lifeline:  the marketing and advertising budget.  While this may seem like an easy place to save some quick dollars, it can actually be one of the worst places that a company can select to cut funding in order to survive long term.  Cutting your advertising takes a bad situation and makes it worse.  When your business drops and you stop telling your unique story to customers, you set yourself up for failure. During the Great Depression industrialist Henry Ford noted, "A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops the clock to save time." More...
